Its booming nightlife and colorful culture draws in many people from all different walks of life. They come to visit quaint bookstores and go thrift shopping like Macklemore. They walk the hill in search of cool concerts and quirky stores.
But after all the shopping, clubbing, browsing, and roaming, everybody needs to eat. The drawback of living in or visiting such a popular neighborhood is that food on Capitol Hill can be pretty pricey and most of the visitors and residents of the hill are young students attending Seattle University or UW.
Luckily for these students and anyone looking for cheap eats on Capitol Hill, there are plenty of restaurants that appeal to those with a tighter budget.

Ginger Lime
Honey Chicken Entree- Ginger Lime
The small square room is clean and modern, with white chairs and little tables scattered evenly across the room.
A waiter brings out some bubble tea to a couple chatting near the window as soothing John Mayer plays in the background.
"Our most popular dishes are the pho and the honey chicken," Michael Duong, a manager at Ginger Lime, said. He also added that the food is vietnamese and that the restaurant is local and family-owned before he returned to the kitchen to help.
The atmosphere is calm and the food is delicious, but that's not the best part about Ginger Lime.
Mondays through Fridays, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., entrees are only $6.75 for students who show their ID card when they order. Some of the most popular entrees included on the student special menu are: honey chicken, caramelized lemongrass chicken, beef or vegetarian pho, and ginger tofu stir fry.
The portions are perfect for dinner or lunch and the entrees also come with a side salad. This restaurant is perfect for students looking for a delicious meal that won't break the bank, and gives a welcome release from the dining hall.
Another thing to try at Ginger Lime is a bubble tea chosen from a unique list of flavors that include lychee and jackfruit. If you are 21 or over, there is also a very large selection of red and white wines but no happy hour.
Something to keep in mind when visiting is that they charge $.45 when you pay with credit or debit on anything $10 or under.
Ginger Lime is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It is located on 732 12th Ave.
Big Mario's
Cheese and Pepperoni with Green Pepper Pizza- Big Mario's
Walking down Pike Street, it would be difficult for a passerby to miss Big Mario's.
The neon sign reading "New York Style Pizza" bursts from the side of an old brick building as punk music streams from the narrow doorway.
This tiny restaurant definitely has a spunky personality of its own. The space is narrow, and at the entrance there is a small counter to the left to order and the chefs are very visible behind the counter, throwing full pizzas into the huge oven.
More often than not there is a long line curling outside the restaurant, but ordering doesn't take long because the slices are ready to go.
The restaurant only has two tiny tables to sit at if you are not over 21 because about 75 percent of Big Mario's is a bar.
The cocktail lounge only adds to the personality of the restaurant. "There's a happy hour from 3 to 4 with $1 beer," Kaillee Coleman, an employee, says. She threw her head back and laughed when a chef chimed in, "we call it power hour!"
As far as the pizza goes, it is delicious, huge, and greasy. The cost is $3 for a giant slice, and $.50 to $1.50 are added to a slice depending on what toppings are on it.
Coleman also said that the most popular pizza is called The Spicoli, which has pepperoni, pineapple, and jalapeños. Definitely an interesting combination, but Big Mario's claims it is the pizza that made them famous.
Not only do they sell slices of pizza, they also deliver whole pies that are made to order and they sell other items like salads and calzones.
This cheap New York pizza spot is open 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. These late hours are perfect for people who are out late enjoying the nightlife on capitol hill.

The neon sign introducing the 24-hour cafe is light blue, slightly dingy, and a subtle reminder of the 50s. Entering the cafe, there is a bar on one side of the large room that holds many seating options. There are three main things that draw customers to Lost Lake Cafe.These reasons are: the cozy feeling it exudes, the fact that it is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and of course, the delicious comfort food it offers.
What most people don't know about Lost Lake Cafe, however, is that it has a phenomenal happy hour menu. Not only does the cafe have one happy hour menu, but two, one for breakfast and one for the afternoon.
The breakfast happy hour specials are served Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. The menu provides a variety of choices, some of the foods include a basic breakfast ($3.99), half a benedict ($4.99), and biscuits and gravy ($4.99). The happy hour menu also includes special $5 drinks. The diversity of the breakfast choices mean everyone can enjoy the happy hour.
The afternoon happy hour specials are served Monday through Friday, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Just as delicious and diverse as the breakfast menu, some items served for afternoon happy hour include a cheeseburger and fries ($2.99), wild boar sloppy joe and fries ($2.99), and grilled cheese and fries ($2.99). Also on the menu is beer for $1, along with other discounted drinks, which is something to keep in mind if you are over 21.
The delicious food off the happy hour menu is great too, but a bit pricey for a college student budget. The always-open hours are great for people out on the town for the night who need some comforting grease in their stomach.

Located on bustling Broadway, Tacos Chukis is a short walk away from the other restaurants that are located near the Seattle University campus. Walking down the busy street, it would be easy to miss the sign that advertises the tiny taco joint inside. To reach the delicious Mexican street food, a person must walk up a flight of stairs to find Tacos Chukis at the end of the hallway stuffed between a sushi restaurant, a hair salon, and a tattoo parlor.
But the walk is well worth it.
Being a Seattle native, I can honestly say that these are the best tacos I have every had. This is, however, coming from someone who has never been to Mexico or lived in California.
But don't let that keep you from the delicious, authentic Mexican cuisine waiting inside the tiny restaurant.
The tacos originate from Tijuana, Mexico, where Edgar Salmeron's older brother went on a mission to find the perfect recipe. "My older brother went to UW and he went on a trip to Tiujuana and saw a restaurant like this that had delicious tacos and decided to bring it back to Seattle," Salmeron said.
Tacos Chukis is a room filled with tables that hold napkin holders made from retired beer packaging and the smell of tacos. The restaurant provides counter service, so there is just one large menu over the counter that separates the tiny kitchen from the rest of the restaurant.
The menu includes items like baby burritos ($3.33), tort as ($6.90), and nopal asado ($6.50), but the most popular item on the menu, Salmeron pointed out, is the adobada taco ($1.90).
The adobada taco (pork taco) is a specialty at Tacos Chukis. The pork taco is made with marinated pork, guacamole, a perfect salsa, onions, cilantro, and, most importantly, a slice of pineapple. One of these tacos is only $1.90, and it is very worth it.
Along with the delicious tacos, the atmosphere is always very happy and warm, and the servers are always so nice.
So if you are ever on Broadway in need of some cheap, authentic Mexican street food, stop by Tacos Chukis, you won't regret it.
